SUNY ESF & SU Lights Out Task Force!

Students at SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry and Syracuse University are working together to reduce light pollution on their campuses through advocacy, research, and public outreach. Students are assessing the current lighting infrastructure and proposing solutions that are proven to work, such as timers, dimmers, motion-activated lights, and fully shielded fixtures.

Students want their schools to align with their lighting choices with their sustainability commitments.

Students are using social media posts, videos, and public events to underscore the impact of excessive artificial light on local ecosystems, the climate, and human health.
